Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SteamIDBot — from setup to advanced features.

General

What is SteamIDBot?
SteamIDBot is a Discord bot that brings Steam tools directly into your Discord server. Look up any Steam profile, check VAC and game bans, view CS2 and Rust stats, track FACEIT profiles, and get automatic DM alerts when watched profiles get banned or change their name.
Is SteamIDBot free?
Yes! All core commands — /id, /vac, /stats, /faceit, /watch, and /help — are completely free. Premium unlocks a larger watchlist (30 profiles instead of 5) and faster alert checks (every 5 minutes instead of every 3 hours).
How do I add SteamIDBot to my server?
Click the "Add to Discord" button on this website, select your server, and authorize the bot. It takes about 10 seconds. No additional setup required.
Does SteamIDBot need any special permissions?
SteamIDBot requires Send Messages, Manage Messages, Embed Links, Read Message History, and Use Application Commands. These are all standard permissions needed for slash commands and rich embed responses.

Commands & Usage

What Steam ID formats does SteamIDBot accept?
Everything. SteamID64 (17-digit number), Steam2 (STEAM_0:0:11101), Steam3 ([U:1:22202]), vanity names, full profile URLs, custom URLs, and even friends/add URLs all work in every command. See the Steam ID formats guide for details.
How do I find someone's Steam ID?
The easiest way: go to their Steam profile in a browser, copy the URL, and paste it into any SteamIDBot command. The bot will parse the ID automatically. You can also use their vanity name (the part after /id/ in the URL).
Can I use SteamIDBot in DMs?
Yes! SteamIDBot works in direct messages. Just open a DM with the bot and use any slash command. All responses are ephemeral (only visible to you) by default.
Why are responses ephemeral?
All command responses are ephemeral by default for privacy. Only you can see the lookup results. This prevents cluttering channels with lookup embeds and keeps profile information private.

Watchlist

How does the watchlist work?
Use /watch to add Steam profiles. The bot monitors them on a schedule — every 3 hours on Free, every 5 minutes on Premium. If a profile gets VAC banned, game banned, community banned, trade banned, or changes their display name, you get a DM instantly.
How many profiles can I watch?
Free users can watch up to 5 profiles. Premium subscribers can watch up to 30 profiles with faster check intervals.
Can other people see my watchlist?
No. Your watchlist is completely private. Only you can see and manage your watched profiles. Server admins and other users cannot access your watchlist.
What happens if I remove the bot from my server?
Your watchlist is tied to your Discord account, not a specific server. If the bot is removed from a server, your watchlist remains intact as long as you share at least one server with SteamIDBot or have an open DM with it.

Premium

How do I get Premium?
Use the /premium command in any server with SteamIDBot. Premium is handled entirely through Discord's built-in subscription system — no third-party websites or separate accounts.
How much does Premium cost?
Pricing is set through Discord's subscription system. Use /premium in Discord to see the current pricing for your region.
Can I cancel Premium anytime?
Yes. Manage or cancel your subscription through Discord's subscription management — the same place you manage all your Discord subscriptions.
What happens to my watchlist if I cancel?
Your watchlist drops to the free tier limit of 5 profiles. Your most recently added profiles are kept. No data is lost.

Privacy & Data

What data does SteamIDBot store?
We store essential operational data: watchlist entries (the Steam profiles you monitor), guild IDs for server-specific settings, and cached Steam API data for performance. No personal data beyond what Discord provides is stored. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Is my Steam data safe?
Yes. All Steam data is fetched directly from the official Steam Web API. We do not have access to your Steam account credentials. Commands are ephemeral by default, so lookup results are only visible to you.
How do I delete my data?
Contact us via the support server to request data deletion. We respond to all requests within 30 days.

Troubleshooting

The bot isn't responding to commands.
Make sure SteamIDBot has the 'Use Application Commands' permission in your server. If the issue persists, try re-inviting the bot or join the support server for help.
I'm getting an error when looking up a profile.
Common causes: the Steam profile is private, the SteamID is typed incorrectly, or Steam's API is temporarily unavailable. Try using the full profile URL instead of a vanity name. If the issue persists, join the support server.
My watchlist alerts aren't coming through.
Make sure you have DMs enabled from server members. SteamIDBot sends alerts via DM. If you've blocked the bot or disabled DMs, alerts won't reach you. Also check that the profiles are still on your watchlist with /watch.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Join the support server and use the appropriate channel. We actively monitor feedback and respond to bug reports quickly.
